2008 NMMA Louisville Boat,
RV & Sport Show - Weekend 1 Louisville
KY
Louisville KY - Four teams from the club made the
looooong trip to Louisville, KY: Brian Rutledge & Mishka, Carly Keane
& Daisy Lou, Kellie Wisotzkey & Clay, and Sharon Rodgers &
Thunder. They were also joined by Angie Jones & Nestle from Keystone
DockDogs. Kellie & Sharon hit some snow with white-out conditions once
driving over the western Maryland and West Virginia mountains. Everyone
else had a clear trip.
The venue was great - the ceiling was really high,
lots of room to move around, and the crowd was HUGE!!! The spectators were
excited, cheering for all the dogs, and hung around for the whole wave and asked when the next one would
be. All the dogs got a lot of love while standing in line and walking
around and gave it back with plenty of wags and kisses for the kids and
grown-ups.
This seemed to be
an "All About Daisy Lou" weekend. Daisy Lou got her first official 5'
National Cadet EV grab and barely missed 5' 2". All those workouts up
the hill are paying off! Poor Lil' Lou ended up with "cold tail" Saturday night
and we weren't sure how she was going to do on Sunday. She
did great! Daisy Lou had qualified for the Amateur Finals on Saturday and finished in 3rd Place
after a really tight race. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place were
only separated by inches and the crowd loved the suspense. She also
finished in 6th Place in her first Speed Retrieve with a
7.89. Seeing that she was sick from eating the blanket off Thunder's crate
she had some great scores in the finals and Speed Retrieve.
Brian & Mishka also had a reason to celebrate - a new Personal Best in EV -
6'. This was their FIRST Top Gun leg on their way to earn their Top Gun
Title. With a 19' in Big Air, they didn't make it into the Semi-Pro finals, but used
their time wisely and left early to get a start on that looooong ride
home.
Kellie
& Clay were the crowd pleasers of the weekend. On Clay's first jump
he decided he didn't want to jump. So, to the cheers and laughs of the
crowd, he ran back down the dock, down the steps, around the side, up the steps to
the ramps, where he regally walked into the pool, swam across, and got
his duck. With his Brand New sit/stay on the dock, he pulled out a 13' 3" in Big
Air but didn't qualify for finals. Considering his last event indoors he
refused to jump at all, Kellie's very happy with his progress.
Sharon & Thunder also competed in their first
Speed Retrieve, qualified for the finals and finished in 4th Place with a 7.66
time. Their Big Air jump of 19' 8" made them 2nd Alternate for the
Semi-Pro Finals but they didn't make it in. Thunder finished in
4th Place in EV with a 6' 4" grab, but couldn't quite get the bumper
at 6' 6". Seeing Jeff & Ares set a new Indoor World Record at 7'
2" was great.
Thunder was his normal O. C. Doggie and ate everything in
sight. He started out by chewing a tiny hole in a microfil pillow and
making snow throughout the car and all over the loading dock at the
event. Next were tissues in the hotel room on Friday.
Saturday, even though we put the cooler in the bathroom, he managed to down a
2lb bag of Ginger Snaps. We found out later that unless you really pulled
on the door it didn't latch. Sunday morning he got in the trash and broke
a bottle of Cocktail Sauce, cleaned out the cans of crab, and licked off the
cream cheese wrappers. On Sunday evening, he finished up the beer bread
and two leftover pickles from dinner.
Brian & Mishka got home
about 9:30 pm on Sunday, Carly & Angie made it home at 2:00 am on Monday, and
Kellie & Sharon found a hotel in Deep Creek Lake and made it home at
12:30pm. That was one long drive!!! Brandy & Buddy - you didn't
miss anything! Congratulations to everyone who competed and we hope to see
you soon. Click here for more club details or here for complete event results.
