2008 Codorus Summer Blast
Hanover PA

June 27-29, 2008 - It was another hot and sticky weekend but the dogs didn't seem to mind with the grass under their feet and the lake available to swim in at anytime.  Friday afternoon we had heavy rain during the first wave.  But Saturday night is when the real storm rolled thru and destroyed over five canopies, capsized two boats, and made a big mess of the event area.  Even with the storms we had a great time and some big jumping dogs!  Congratulations to two teams who broke the 25' mark:  Carolynn Williams & Rafe with 25.04 (jumped their first Elite and Super Elite jumps ever) and TR Thompson & Charlie with 25.00.  The dogs and people were loving the venue.

Alas, we were trounced by Keystone in the Second Annual Keystone versus Chespeake Challenge.  With 31 teams competing again the top 31 Keystone teams we jumped at total of 545.60 feet to their 568.80 feet.  Chesapeake, we need more teams to jump at Codorus next year so we can finally beat Keystone!!

In a combined effort to raise money to support the Chase Away Cancer effort and the ACVIM foundation, Keystone and Chesapeake club members and our friends joined forces to push everyone to do their best. Handlers started talking trash and putting the donation money where their mouths were! It was great fun to see the dogs break new personal bests(Coleman, Hatcher, Maggie, Mia the golden, Twister, Jake) or beat their friendly rivals(Bella vs THUNDER, Clay vs Daisy Lou, and Lewis vs Finn). From the puppy challenge where all the dogs under a year competed for the best jump of the weekend (Wilson over 20 feet!) to the veteran challenge of jumping the furthest or getting out of the lake the fastest, all in all we had a great time. There were wagers for sit/stays on the dock....congrats to Twister, Daisy Lou and Talley! As well as other wagers for fun. Daisy Lou is happy to take back her Escape Artist title from Mia Fischer and will now be sharing it with all the other crazy yellow labs who escaped this weekend and were able to point the finger at Daisy! She doesn't mind - they were all the right size! Also, congratulations to Team Blabador on an outstanding weekend! I know the blabs made her write a check for several of her challenges to those beautiful yella fellas!

Youth Handler Zachary Ward was kept busy jumping both Diamond & Jake during the event.  Zach & Diamond jumped to a big 17.02 with the puppy beating out Jake who jumped 15.00.  Matthew Rutledge & Mishka made it to the event on Sunday and jumped 17.04.

A big "Welcome Back" to Peggy Toms who has been on hiatus for quite a long time.  It probably seemed even longer to her.  Kai apparently didn't forget what DockDogs is all about while she was off and jumped a big 22' 11".  Sharon Williams & Tanner, after outjumping her daughter Tracy, won 2nd Place in the Junior Finals with a 15.02.

Congratulations to our brand new members Steve McKim & Rebel with a 19' 7" and Alan Williams & Mocha with a 16.05.  Three of our "almost new" members jumped to new Personal Bests:  Steve Sozio & Twister got their first Elite jump of 23.03 for a 8th Place finish in the Pro Finals, Dan Bryant & Maggie jumped 19.07 and Cindy Eyler & Wonder jumped 13' 5".

Congratulations to all our competitors and we hope to see you soon at an event.  For complete event scores click here and for club statistics click here.
