2008 Warren County Fair
July 20 - August 3, 2008
Bel Air MD - What a nice event. The crowd loved watching the dogs and stayed around after to meet them all and say how great they were. Despite the worries about parking, the DockDogs' staff worked with the event venue and got us all close parking making it a lot easier after some people had a rough Thursday getting in.
Having Rain, Storm, Thunder and Twister competing conjured up a nasty storm Saturday afternoon. Fair tents were damaged, port-a-pots were knocked over like dominoes, and parts of the fair were flooded. Thanks to a 40 minute warning from Jeff Rohrbaugh to Linda who spread the word, all the DockDogs competitors took their time, got their belongings in their car and when the dark clouds got close took the canopy covers off. Dogs and people took shelter in cars and buildings. No damage to anything of ours!!
Steve & Twister competed in their first National Pro Final (against her sister Rain) with a 2nd Place finish, jumped their first Elite jump, and got a new Personal Best of 23.02 all in one day. They also decided to try their first Extreme Vertical competition and grabbed 5' for a tied 2nd Place Cadet finish. Steve has become a DockDogs addict and has planned vacation and work around his addiction. His wife Heather, due to her husband's influence, tried her hand at jumping Twister and turned in very respectable 20' 9" jump for her first time. We predict a 12 Step Program in this family's near future!
The team of Taylor Rohrbaugh & Daisy Lou continue their winning streak with a 2nd Place Semi-Pro finish, a new National Personal Best of 21' 8", and their National Master Title. Lil' Lab - Big Jumps!! Jim Pierce and Jake joined them in the Semi-Pro Finals and finished in 7th Place.
Four Chesapeake teams earned spots in the Amateur Finals. Our Young Handler, Zachary Ward & Diamond, jumped 8' 9" to an 8th Place Finish. Tracy Williams & Brody jumped into the Top 4 and with a 14' 6" won 4th Place. Paige Jones was extremely busy with both Mia and Lewis qualifying for the finals back to back. In addition to new Personal Bests (Mia 17' 5" and Lewis 16' 5"), they both qualified for the Top 4. Fearless Mia out-jumped her big "brother" Lewis winning a 1st Place Medal to his 3rd Place Medal.
Jim Linde & Harry had their momentous First Jump off the dock and earned a Novice and Junior Leg. Cynthia Eyler & Wonder attended their first National Event along with Steve & Rebel. This was Rebel's first competition into the dreaded "blue" water of a pool. Dan Bryant & Maggie (18' 5"), Jeff Hindle & Lexi (15' 4"), and Susan Hetrick & Coleman (14' 1") all earned new National Personal Bests.
The biggest surprise was what Katie brought with her to the event - a future Youth Handler, a boy, due in November!! Congratuations to Nat & Katie on their growing family! For Club Stats click here and for complete Event Results click here.
